Words to Know: DIY Periscope Project

1. Periscope
   A tool that lets you see over, under, or around something using mirrors.
   
   

2. Mirror
   A smooth, shiny surface that bounces light back so you can see your reflection.
   
   

3. Reflection
   When light hits something like a mirror and bounces back.
   
   

4. Angle
   The space between two lines or surfaces that meet — like how the mirrors in the periscope are tilted at 45 degrees.
   
   

5. Light Ray
   A straight line that shows the direction light is traveling.
   
   

6. Line of Sight
   The straight path between your eyes and what you’re looking at.
   
   

7. Field of View
   Everything you can see at one time. A periscope lets you change your field of view!
   
   

8. Design
   Your plan for how to build the periscope, including shape, size, and mirror placement.
   
   

9. Prototype
   The first version you build to test if your idea works.
   
   

10. Test
    Trying out your periscope to see if it works and making changes if needed.
